Milkmen Tap Out 3-0

Franklin, WI. —The Milwaukee Milkmen battled with the Kansas City Monarchs again on Tuesday looking to keep their 3-game win streak alive. 

The Monarchs scored as many runs in the first inning as they did in the entire game yesterday when Gabby Guerrero singled home Darnell Sweeney. After Kansas City slugger Casey Gillaspie reached on a single, Solter wriggled free from more damage when Colin Willis grounded into an odd 3-6-1 double play. 

The Milkmen put Logan Trowbridge and Adam Brett Walker II in scoring position in the bottom of the first as they tried to mount a response, but Kansas City starter Nick Travieso struck out Aaron Hill to end the inning. 

Milkmen center fielder Derek Reddy, who played part of the 2019 season with the Milwaukee, struck his first base hit since rejoining the team in the bottom of the second. 

“It felt good, I’ve been feeling good in the box. I mean I’ve just been a little off missing pitches here and there. This one was a tough game that’s going to happen from time to time, but it’s good to get the first one again,” said Reddy.

Kansas City tacked on another run in the third when Gillaspie grounded out to first, but brought home Ryan Grotjohn, who walked, moved over to second on another Solter walk, and stole third base.

Milwaukee looked to come back in the bottom of the seventh after Trey Martin walked and advanced to third on two ground outs, but would be left stranded.

The Monarchs wouldn’t strike again until the top of the ninth inning. Charcer Burks started the inning with a triple, and was knocked in by teammate Alexis Olmeda, enhancing the lead to three runs.

The Milkmen would not be able to put together a win, but maintain first place with a 20-12 record at just under one-third of the way through the season.

“It’s going pretty good, just have to make sure we maintain what we are doing and keep winning ball games. The locker room atmosphere is really good. The guys are having a lot of fun and I think it is translating and showing on the field,” said Reddy.

The Milkmen and Monarchs play the third game of their 4-game series on Wednesday. First pitch is at 6:35 PM.
